They offer a number of nootropic benefits and have been found to contain two compounds that can stimulate the growth of brain cells: hericenones and erinacines and may boost cognitive function, protect against dementia, reduce mild symptoms of anxiety and depression, and help repair nerve damage. They are packed full of antioxidants which may fight inflammation and oxidation in the body and contain a decent amount of potassium and iron.
